Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior political figure said the attack left him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
